I primarily use plaster as a casting material. I pour it into molds taken from oil clay originals. However, I sometimes also work directly in plaster to create sculptures. Plaster is unique because it exists initially as a liquid and then progresses towards a cream cheese consistency, eventually solidifying. Unlike metal, plaster is easy to work with while in its liquid state, and once it hardens it is still quite easy to manipulate, which allows me to add to and subtract from my sculptures as I see fit.
